The day marked by the brightest star in the Leo constellation, Magha star, in the Tamil month of Masi, is when the special cosmic energy fills the earth plane, enabling you to rejuvenate your body and purify your soul. This once-in-a-year event can help you and your future generation gain good health, wealth and prosperity, as the star energy of the day carries the qualities of a King. It also helps you seek the blessings of your ancestors, as the presiding deity of the star is Pitris (ancestors).

Significance Of The Masi Magham
According to the scriptures, when Lord Brahma understood Lord Shiva's plan to recreate the universe after its destruction, he asked about the methodology to recreate the world.
Lord Shiva in turn asked Lord Brahma to fill a Kumbha (pot) with amrita (nectar) and the source energy for creating the world and to place it at the top of mount Meru. He blessed Lord Brahma to start his activity of creating the world from the place where he'd found the pot after a great flood.
Lord Brahma found the Kumbha in the place named Kumbakonam on a Magha star day in the Tamil month of Masi.

Benefits Of The Masi Magham Ceremony
As per the scriptures, Lord Shiva blessed the Masi Magha day as one of the best days to get the blessings of Himself and Goddess Parvati, his consort. You can also empower yourself with the energy of Magha, which is ideal to offer prayers and remove any negative, troublesome energy that may be due to a lack of blessings you've received from your ancestors.
According to the sacred texts, the following blessings can be obtained by participating in the Masi Magham rituals:
- Washing away of your sins and bad karma by taking a holy dip in sacred rivers (according to mythology, on this day, River Goddess Ganga purifies all water sources).
- Happiness and peace of mind
- Good health, wealth and knowledge
- You could get rid of the curses from priests and learned Vedic pandits in case you've mistreated them earlier
- Cleanse negative energy and fill your life with positivity
- Receive the blessings of your ancestors
