Karthik Amavasya is celebrated during the time of Diwali, sometime during the months of October or November. This year, the occasion falls on 23rd of October. On this day, the worship of Lord Kali is performed using the Tantrik method. Special offerings are made through rituals by a special Tantrik puja. The day holds immense significance in the Hindu custom as it involves the worship of Shyama Kali, a supremely powerful Goddess. In this article, we touch upon the following aspects: the significance of Kartik Amavasya and Kali puja, the significance of Kali Puja during Diwali and the signifiance of Tantrik puja.

During the day of Karthik Amavasya, the Kali Puja is done for specific reasons. The main purpose is to invoke the blessing of Maha Kali in order to vanquish the forces of evil both on the outside as well as on the inside. Separate pujas are done to eliminate egoism and anger that hinder spiritual growth and progress.

Shyama Kali is the first avatar of Goddess Durga. The Puja that makes offerings to Goddess Kali is performed very carefully and accurately. Tantrik rituals are used in order to invoke Goddess Kali's supreme power. The Puja is done during midnight and goes on through the course of the month until the day of Karthik Purnima arrives.

While performing this puja, Tantriks undertake great precaution, commitment and dedication. They leave no stone unturned and tread cautiously as Goddess Kali is associated with incredible power characterized by strong currents and a burst of unforeseen energy. People perform this puja to get strength to tackle life's numerous challenges and keep the forces of evil at bay.
