The Gargeshwara Ganapati Idol That Indicates Answers To All Your Questions

Near the picturesque locale of T Narasipur , in the Gargeshwari village, a temple of Gargeshwara Ganesha exists since the times of mahabharata in Dwapara yuga. Installed by Adi Shankaracharya, this Ganapati is called Yantra Prashna Ganapati. Weighing 4 to 5 kg, this Ganapati idol indicates answers to the questions of the devotees in its own way. We are asked to submit our questions on specific days. Annually on every Shivaratri, a special pooja is performed here.
Ritual For Submitting Prayers
To ask the question to Ganapati, firstly submit your prayers, and try lifting the Ganapati with both hands. It can be easily lifted if the Ganapati has blessed you for that query. In case it feels heavy but you are finally able to lift it, it means the query takes longer to be fulfilled. Now again lift the Ganapati to know when it will be fulfilled. If you are able to lift it a bit, your wish will be fulfilled in some time. In case even after asking this question, Ganapati feels heavy, it indicates that your wish will not be fulfilled. So at this time, it is best to pray to him that Ganapati must listen to your prayers and fulfil it for you so that you will visit him again after your wishes are fulfilled. So, by praying thus, your wish is sure to get fulfilled. Thousands of devotees come in hordes here to submit their requests to Ganapati. There are many such mysterious facets to this Ganapati at Gargeshwara which you will know by enquiring locals or the priests in the temple.
Swayambhu Lord Shiva Temple
In the same premises of Ganapti temple, one can see a very ancient Lord Shiva temple. Legends say that Lord Shiva, impressed with the strict austerities performed by Garga Maharshi on the banks of Cauvery, resolved to stay there in the form of a self-manifested Linga. The Linga which was made of pure crystal, now has lost its sheen and acquired a darker hue. It sports a Naga Yagnopavita which is the sacred thread. Parvati is seated on the left thigh of Lord Shiva. During the Uttarayana time, the sun rays are known to bathe the Linga with their glowing rays.
Story of Krishna And Garga Maharshi
Gargacharya was responsible for naming the kids of Nanda and Vasudeva as Krishna and Balarama. Garga Rishi was the Kul guru to the Yadavas. The moment Krishna was born to Devaki, he was carried away by Vasudeva who crossed the swift currents of Yamuna River due to the grace of the lord he was carrying in the casket above his head. At the time of crossing the river, in the meanwhile, in the Nandgokula, a child was born to Yashoda and Nanda at Gokul. Vasudeva reached there, handed over his child to Yashoda and Nanda and came back carrying Nanda's kid in his casket. This happened exactly at the time when Garga Maharshi had just set out to Mathura. As Garga Rishi slowly walked up his way towards the hut of Nanda in Gokul, he is treated in a worthy befitting manner by Nanda who also requested Garga Maharshi to stay with them for some more time. Anyhow, all these news reached the ears of Kamsa who was waiting to kill Krishna given the first opportunity.
Unable to contain his insecurity, he sent his army and got all newborn children killed in Gokul. Nanda and Yashoda hid Krishna successfully in their home hiding the news of Krishnas birth from everyone. Anticipating that Krishna would be exposed to people's eye, Nanda did not call any priest to name his child. Gargacharya studied the child's horoscope and other characteristic features that clearly expressed that the kid was none other than Lord Vishnu in an incarnation on earth. He decided to name him as Krishna. The other kid was called Balarama because he was strong by birth.
One day Garg acharya visited the banks of the Kaveri River to carry out his penance. Pleased with his austerities, Lord Shiva blessed Garga Rishi and as per the wishes of Garga Rishi, he settled there along with Parvati in the form of a svayambhu linga, which is reported to have been growing three inches every year. This Linga has five faces.
Facing the Shiva temple, there are three holy theerthams one of which is named as Garga theertha. Devotees take a holy dip inside these theerthams and then have a holy glimpse of the lord in the temple. By doing this, they are freed of their sins. This holy place has a very ancient historical background and the swayambhu Linga along with Ganapati form the pivotal area of visitor interest.
