Trimbakeshwar: Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva
Trimbakeshwar is an ancient Hindu temple and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It located in the Nasik district of Maharashtra. Only the Jyotirlinga in Trimbakeshwar has three faces embodying Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar (Tridev). It is also the only temple in India where the Linga is not outside but inside the floor.
Past and Present Significance:

According to the Puranas, Lord Shiva agreed to reside with the name of Trimbakeshwar in this Jyotirlinga upon the earnest prayers of Godavari, Gautam Rishi and other Gods. This is why, this linga is located at the source of the sacred river, Godawari.
The nature of the Linga in this temple reflects the human society. A crown studded with expensive jewels is placed over Trimbakeshwar – Jyotirlinga. This crown is embedded with precious stones such as diamond and emerald and the crown is said to be present in the temple from the age of the Pandavs. Lying at the foothills of Brahmagiri Mountain, the black stone Jyotirlinga temple has one of the most striking and appealing structures made out of Basalt.
Important religious rituals like Tri-Sandhya Gayatri, Narayan Nagbali, Kalsarpa Shanti, Tripindi Vidhi and many more are performed here.
Monsoon would be the most appropriate season to visit Trimbakeshwar. The place is located far from the madding crowd. Another place to visit nearby would be Kushavarta, the source of origin of the Godavari river.
