Inner Dimensions Of Ramadan And Fasting

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
In the Name of Allah, the Infinitely Merciful, Singularly Compassionate
Introduction
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo kutiba AAalaykumu alssiyamu kama kutiba AAala allatheena min qablikum laAAallakum tattaqoon.
"O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint."
- The Quran 2:183
God Most High said: 'Fasting is for My sake and I bestow rewards for it'.
Every action of the childrens of Adam is given manifold reward, each good deed receiving ten times its like, up to seven hundred times. Allah the Most High said, 'Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will give recompense for it, he leaves off his desires and his food for Me.' for the fasting person there are two times of joy; a time when he breaks his fast and a time of joy when he meets his Lord.
The fast and the Qur'an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. The fast will say: 'O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Let me intercede for him.' The Qur'an will say: 'I prevented him from sleeping at night. Let me intercede for him.' And their intercession will be accepted."
Ramadan: Rabi Ul Qulub
The gnostics calls Ramadan Rabi-ul-Quloob. Month of the Heart. To be precise, Ramadan is the Spring Season for Heart.
The way spring comes to the earth, same way the heart also experiences spring. Sometimes the heart becomes dead like the vegetation in the Autumn season, when it cannot accept any guidance. In order to freshen up this heart, make it blossom, make it green and lively, this heart of human being which is the land of Allah, Qalbul Momin Arshul Rahmaan - The Heart of believer is the Majestic Throne of the Most Merciful One, for this, Allah has established a season with the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
On fasting of the Inner Heart, Sufi Master Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, may God be pleased with him says:
"The real fast is the blossoming of the inner heart. Fragrance must emanate. The qualities, conduct, behavior, and disposition that accompany this blossoming make no sound. Light and fragrance must dawn in the inner heart. The one point which is God must resplend.
Do fast, but make sure the heart blossoms; make it fragrant. The flowering scent must emanate, and when that space is perceived, the One who inhales that perfume will come. The One who perceives that fragrance will come. He is the Lord."
