Sindoor Khela is a 400-year-old tradition during Durga Puja that is followed every year on the day of Vijayadashami by Bengali Hindu women. Before the immersion of the Durga idol, this is the final ritual which holds immense significance, especially in West Bengal. This year Sindoor Khela will be celebrated on 24 October 2023.

On the last day of Durga Puja, married women put sindoor vermillion on Maa Durga's forehead and feet on Vijayadashami and then they apply it to other women present around them. The term 'sindoor' means 'vermillion' and 'khela' means 'play'. The ritual means to wish each and every one good fortune and a blissful married life.
