Durga Puja 2023: Waking up to the voice of Birendra Krishna Bhadra at 4 am and listening to the Chandipath is a nostalgia that all Bengali Hindus do without fail on Mahalaya. This day marks the beginning of Devi Paksha and the end of Pitru Paksha.

Devi Paksha is the waxing phase of the moon which comes in the month of Ashwin as per the Hindu lunar calendar. It is believed that Goddess Durga starts Her journey to the paternal home on earth with her family from Mount Kailash on the day of Mahalaya.
