There exists an idol that is made of clay and was made idol made of clay of Goddess Durga was installed more than two hundred and fifty years ago, which is still intact and its appearance still astonishes people.
The Story Behind Ancient Durga Idol In Varanasi
In Hinduism, Kashi is known as the city of Shiva, and it is one of the oldest religious places in the world. This place was earlier known as Banaras, in a place called Purana Durga Bari, there is a popular idol of Maa Durga, which was established more than 250 years ago.
The passage of time has not had any significant effect on this idol. Although the idol is made of clay and straw, even after two hundred and fifty years the idol remains the same. There is a huge footfall of devotees here, especially during Navratri, who come just to get a glimpse of the Goddess.
256-Year-Old Idol Was established In 1767
This statue was established in the year 1767. Since then, the idol has not been immersed after worship. It is said that the mother herself had refused to immerse herself. Even the gods do not feel like leaving Kashi, the city of Lord Shiva.
The most surprising fact is that no chemical coating has been applied to prevent the erosion of the idol that is made of clay and it remains exactly the same even today. People travel from far and wide to see this amazing craftsmanship.
Establishing The Idol By A Bengali Family
This statue was installed by the Mukherjee family. When an attempt was made to lift the statue for immersion, it couldn't be lifted from its place. After this, help was taken from some other people but the Goddess couldn't be moved.
Then the Goddess herself appeared in the dream of the head of the Mukherjee family and said that she was very happy with his service and wanted to stay there. From then till today the Goddess is residing in the house of this Bengali family. Every year at the time of puja, people come here from far and wide to have darshan of Goddess Durga.
