Chaitra Navratri 2024 Day 6 Mata Katyayani: For the last five days, devotees have been engrossed in the worship of Goddess Durga. The nine days of Chaitra Navratri are dedicated to nine different forms of Maa Durga. Mother Katyayani is worshiped on 14 April, the sixth day of Navratri. Goddess Katyayani was the daughter of sage Katyayan and She has four arms and rides a lion.

By worshiping Goddess Katyayani with full devotion, one gets freedom from the obstacles related to love and marriage. Mother Katyayani rides on a lion and has a sword, and a lotus in her four arms, raised upwards and in the posture of giving a boon. The crown on the mother's head is stunning. On the sixth day of Navratri, wake up early in the morning, take a bath and meditate on Maa Katyayani. After this, clean the place of worship. And install the picture of Goddess Katyayani at the place where the Kalash is installed. Apply kumkum and akshat to the mother and light a lamp and incense in front of her. Goddess Katyayani likes white and red colors, hence you must worship her by wearing clothes of these colors and offer white and red flowers. After doing proper puja, recite Aarti and Durga Saptashati.

According to the legend, once Maharishi Katyayan performed rigorous penance in front of Goddess Bhagwati to have a child. Mother Bhagwati was very happy with the rigorous penance of Maharishi Katyayan and also gave her darshan. Sage Katyayana expressed his wish to Goddess. The goddess promised him that she would be born in his house as his daughter. Once the atrocities of a demon named Mahishasur were increasing day by day on all three worlds. All the gods and goddesses became troubled due to the demon's rampage.

Then the goddess incarnated from the glory of Brahma, Vishnu and Lord Shiva and took birth in the house of Maharishi Katyayan. She was named Katyayani because she was born in the house of Maharishi Katyayana. After being born as a daughter in the house, Rishi Katyayan worshiped Mother Katyayani ritually on Saptami, Ashtami and Navami tithi. After this, Mother Katyayani killed Mahishasura and freed the three worlds from his atrocities.

Offering honey to the Goddess Katyayini on the sixth day is considered auspicious. To bring happiness and prosperity in your life, sweets made of honey pumpkin or semolina pudding can be offered to this deity.
