The divine mother Uma or Parvati blessed Giriraja or Himalaya (the king of mountains) with various visions of her manifestations when she had incarnated herself as his daughter.

The king then wished to see the Brahman as expounded in the Vedas. Mother Parvati, the mother of the universe said that inorder to get even a glimpse of the Brahman, the king would have to seek the company of holy men who have given up the world totally.

The Brahman cannot be realised until dispassion and detachment is developed and one's vision is directed inwards. This again becomes possible only in the company of saints and holy ones who are established in Brahman unswervingly.
