Rinku Singh And Priya Saroj’s Wedding Has Cricket, Politics—And A Whole Lot Of Heart
When Kolkata Knight Riders' Rinku Singh steps onto the cricket field, he's known for turning impossible chases into roaring victories, most famously when he hit five sixes in a single over against the Gujarat Titans. But off the field, a different story has been quietly unfolding. One that began at a bustling wedding ceremony in Delhi and has grown into a cross-world romance with a courtroom lawyer-turned-MP from Varanasi.
Priya Saroj-lawyer, parliamentarian, and daughter of three-time MP Toofani Saroj-met Rinku through a mutual acquaintance with cricketing ties. She had just completed her law degree from Noida's Private University after graduating from Delhi University. Their first conversation happened over coffee and crowded laughter during the mehendi function. By the end of the evening, they'd exchanged numbers and an ease that usually takes years to build.
Engagements And Election Wins
Their wedding calendar is already marked. The engagement is set for June 8 at a seven-star hotel in Lucknow, followed by a winter wedding on November 18 at Hotel Taj in Varanasi. The timing wasn't arbitrary-Rinku had to wrap up his IPL commitments, while Priya had just secured her seat in the Lok Sabha from Machhlishahr, winning by a margin of 35,000 votes against BJP's BP Saroj.
At 29, she's among the youngest parliamentarians in India. Old photographs of her as a teenager standing in a crowd of schoolchildren beside SP leader Akhilesh Yadav have resurfaced, showing a girl who grew up close to the pulse of politics. Those early years led her not just to Parliament, but also to the Supreme Court, where she began practicing in March 2024. On television panels, she often speaks on constitutional rights and grassroots justice, her tone steady, her arguments sharp.
From Cylinder Deliveries To Cricket Stardom
Rinku's backstory couldn't be more different. Born in Aligarh, he left school after class eight. His father delivered LPG cylinders for a living, and the family of seven shared a modest two-room home near a railway colony. Rinku's break came after relentless hard work at local matches, often walking miles with his cricket gear just to make a team's final list.
When the world noticed him for that iconic IPL over, what many missed was his habit of handing his match bonuses straight to his mother or using them to repay family debts. Cricket gave him fame, but the discipline, sacrifice, and bruises came long before the spotlight.
The Meeting Point : Shared Grit
What binds Priya and Rinku isn't shared schooling or social circles, it's grit. She debates in Parliament. He hits under pressure in the death overs. She navigates lawbooks and election booths. He faces bouncers on turning pitches. Not on lavish dates or red carpet appearances, their bond is built on long phone calls between campaign rallies and team practices. Neither one tried to reshape the other's world. Instead, they made space for each other's chaos.
Priya's declared assets total ₹11.25 lakhs-mostly jewellery, savings, and some cash. No sprawling estates or flashy acquisitions. Just enough to keep her grounded, like the steel tiffin she still carries to Parliament.
A Celebration Of Differences
Their wedding celebrations are expected to draw politicians, cricket stars, industrialists, and Bollywood actors. But it's not the guest list that makes this union remarkable-it's the contrast. Rinku, in his trademark track pants and low-profile demeanour, and Priya, in crisp cotton saris with campaign slogans still echoing in her voice, offer something rare: two people rooted in very different worlds, meeting halfway with mutual respect.
Tufani Saroj, Priya's father, said it best in a recent interview: "We didn't need convincing. They knew what they were doing."
The Last Over
In the crowded timelines of political careers and packed cricket seasons, love doesn't usually get prime time. But Priya Saroj and Rinku Singh made room for it-between a Supreme Court hearing and a pre-season net session, a constituency visit and a team huddle. Despite their different worlds, they understood each other early-how pressure feels in front of a crowd, how public life demands constant composure.
Engagement prep is underway in Lucknow, wedding logistics are moving in Varanasi-and somewhere between team calls and campaign stops, they're building something that works for both.
