Once marriage vows have been taken, it is usually followed by divorce. Mostly happening in the case of celebrities, a divorce is no longer a break-up of a relationship, it is more like a business. A celebrity divorce is a means of earning for one of the spouse, either the husband or the wife.

Celebrities make news in whatever they do – marriage, children and of course divorces too. Extravagant weddings celebrated in amazing locales, without much attention being paid to expenses. Elaborate costumes, firework displays and not to forget the celebrity guest lists, all this and more constitute any celebrity wedding. The celebrity break-up too is thus a costly affair.

Mel Gibson and Robyn Moore: With Mel's fortune amounting up to $1 billion, this might make up as one of the most expensive divorces in the list of top 5 expensive divorces. Rumours have it that the amount to be settled is about $76 billion dollars.

Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall: After tying knots in a traditional Hindu wedding at Indonesia, Jerry hall filed for a divorce on knowing about Mick fathering another woman's child. Mick whose total fortune summed up to $325 million at the time of divorce, had to slice away about $15 to $25 million for his wife.

Lionel Richie and Diane Richie: After divorcing from his first wife, Lionel married a backup dancer, Diane. Filing for a divorce after 8 years, Diane's claims included expenses for monthly clothing, beauty treatments and plastic surgeries that would amount up to $85,000. The total estimated amount approximately came up to $20 million.

Janet Jackson and Rene Elizondo: Though their marriage was not public, it was made public when Rene Elizondo filed for a divorce in 2000. The divorce made Rene Elizondo richer by almost $10 million, though he filed for a spousal support of $25 million.
