People who are in a long-distance relationship, have probably accepted the fact that intimacy issues are part of their relationship, not the emotional one, but the physical one. Being geographically distant from your partner is not easy and the success rate of these relationships still remains low.

Recently, a Chinese start-up has been in the news for inventing a long-distance kissing machine 'MUA' that uses technology to transfer the user's kiss data collected through motion sensors that are hidden in silicon lips. The interesting part is it moves simultaneously when replaying kisses received.

MUA is named after the sound that one makes while blowing a kiss. This app captures and replays sound and also warms up slightly during kissing to make the experience more authentic, mentioned Beijing-based startup, Siweifushe, which created this app.

It was inspired by lockdown isolation in China, which forbade the citizens to leave their apartments for months. Through this app, any user can download the kissing data, which is submitted by another accompanying app by other users.

The inventor of MUA, Zhao Jianbo told several media outlets that he was in a relationship during the lockdown and couldn't meet his girlfriend due to stringent rules. Back then he was a graduate student at the Beijing Film Academy where he worked on a project 'The lack of physical intimacy in video calls'.

On 22 January, Siweifushe released its first product MUA which was priced at $38 (260 yuan) and within two weeks, the firm sold 3,000 kissing machines. Not just that, they have also received an additional 20,000 orders.

It is basically similar to a mobile stand and comes with colourless pursed unisex lips protruding from the front. In order to use it, couples or lovers have to simply download the app on their smartphones and team it up with their kissing machines. if they kiss the device, the device will kiss them back. It is also available in several colours. While many are excited to try something new, others have said it is making them uncomfortable due to lack of tongue.
