Man's Identity Crisis
Men often drown into a powerful dilemma due to an inward struggle called identity crisis. As they pass the door sill of adolescence, they want to claim and mark their place in the world. Men, who may not even tried to set their goals suffer more from identity crisis than men who wish to prove their own identity and become successful in the venture.
The identity crisis in men arise as they explore a free world for the first time in their college life. Men start to ward off unattainable expectations on them and try to find out their true identity. Most guys in this stage experience the dilemma as in the popular Bollywood film song "Mein Aisa Kyon hoom?"(Why am I like this?).
I remember one incident from my college life. The guy in the story was an inborn musician with very poor score in academics. One day the professor made fun of him in front of the whole class. "Go to your house, take a mirror, look into it and ask Who am I?" This was the last day we met him in the class. After a very short period he became a huge musical sensation and an acclaimed singer. If he had been late to understand his true identity to stay back in academics, the musical world would have lost a real talent.
Academic life and professional life have a vast sea of difference. Men often find it difficult to find their place at an initiatory stage of professional life. They may often feel that they cannot prove their true identity at a chosen work place. However it had been proved that men, who stay back at a challenging situation and devote themselves to the career will find out their true talents and will suffer less identity crisis.
The family life often poses serious identity threats to men. Passing from the stages of a son, grandson, brother, husband, son-in-law, father and grandfather; men often struggle to keep up their identity. Over all the places men struggle to keep their identity high in their families. The warmth of love, care and passion that they show in family life set the true identity of men in a family life.
The identity crisis may lead men to many challenging situations. However man's identity crisis is not a life threatening situation. Those men who have the real quest to prove their identity came out successful in their lives. The thrive to find the real talents is a stage of growth for their personality.
