Cabbage Thoran Recipe: How To Make Traditional Cabbage Thoran
Cabbage thoran is a traditional dish of Kerala. The main ingredient of the cabbage thoran is obviously cabbage. The cabbage is finely chopped and combined with shallots and other spices. It is generously stir fried with coconut in the aromatic coconut oil.
This side dish takes a minimal preparation time and is very fast to cook. The ingredients are all those that can be easily found in your kitchen pantry. You do not need to cook the cabbage for a lot of time. This makes this dish apt for times when you need a quick recipe. This side dish goes very well with a plateful of rice and sambar.

CABBAGE THORAN RECIPE VIDEO

Cabbage -1 finely chopped
Shallots - 1 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Chilli powder - 1 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli - 3
A few curry leaves
Grated coconut for garnish

1. In a mixing bowl, add cabbage, turmeric powder, shallots and mix them well. Keep aside.
2. In a wide pan, add coconut oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and pieces of red chilli. Once the mustard seeds start sputtering, add curry leaves and the cabbage mixture.
3. Sauté it for a few minutes and then add chilli powder and salt. Mix it well.
4. Cover the pan and let it cook for a few more minutes.
5. Finally, garnish it with grated coconut.
