Snoring is not a problem only of adults. It is seen in some children as well. According to studies, around 20% of children snore without much serious health effects. It is called habitual snoring. But snoring in some children can be due to health related problems, which need attention.
There can be many causes of snoring in children. Usually, children of three years or above have this problem. Medical professionals say that sleep apnea due to this issue may affect child’s growth, both emotional and physical development.

Respiratory Disorders:
Snoring in children can also be due to some respiratory disorders. Children with asthma will have snoring. Children who snore frequently may have allergies, asthma, ear or throat infection. Consult a doctor at the early stage itself for better treatment.

Nasal Congestion:
This is one of the causes of snoring in children. Nasal congestions can be caused by allergies, chronic sinusitis or viral infections. Children with this problem try to breathe through the nose.

Enlarged Tonsils:
One of the reasons behind snoring in children is enlarged tonsils. This can lead to severe difficulty in breathing and the noise produced during sleep will be more. Parents must be careful when your child have tonsillitis and breathing difficulty. Better consult a doctor to avoid chronic conditions.

Stress:
The controversy on the role of stress in snoring is still continuing. No proven evidence shows that children snore due to stress. But,it is found that children who have some behavioral problems do experience snoring. This can be another reason among the causes of snoring in children.
