Facts About Heat Illness In Children
As a parent, it is very important to know about heat illness in children. Especially, during the summer season, it is important to keep an eye on your child's health when the temperatures are too high.
The human body generates heat but sweat usually regulates the temperature. But what happens when the body is exposed to extreme temperatures? Well, unbearable heat can lead to certain heat illnesses.
When the temperature of your body rises to life-threatening-levels, it is termed as heat-stroke. Children cannot survive the condition unless immediate medical help is rendered.
Signs Of High Body Temperature
Though you don't need to tie down your kids indoors during the summer season, it is important to educate them about how heat illnesses occur. Children will gradually learn about hydrating themselves to avoid such illnesses.

Heat Cramps
Make sure that your kids drink sufficient amounts of water. Heat cramps are nothing but cramps in certain part of your body which are a result of excessive heat.
They could be short but very painful to handle. When your kid's body sweats excessively, a heat cramp may occur. Though they are not too serious, ignoring them could lead to other serious conditions.
Give some salt-sugar solution to your kid to drink and massage the affected area gently. Avoid sunlight if possible.
Heat Exhaustion
When someone is exposed to hot climate and is not properly hydrated, heat exhaustion could occur. It is a very severe condition.
Well, weakness, thirst, cramps, headache, irritability, fainting, high body temperature etc are some of the symptoms symptoms of heatstroke in children.
It is important to take your child indoors and serve electrolytes. Wiping the body with a wet cloth can also help. Heat exhaustion in kids could be dangerous. Consulting a doctor immediately is important.
Heatstroke
Heatstroke in children can never be ignored as it can even take one's life. When a person suffers from this condition, the temperature of the body goes beyond 105 degrees and it could be life threatening. Immediate medical supervision is required.
Preventive Measures
Firstly, make it a habit to drink water often during summers. Make sure your kids wear cotton clothes. Never allow kids to play outdoors during the noons. Educate your kids about the symptoms of heat illnesses.
