Inadequate or inappropriate clothes can restrict a child's physical activities in child care centres, says a research team, led by Dr. Kristen Copeland from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Centre. The research concludes that clothings are a significant barrier to a child's outdoor physical activities. The study has appeared in the International Journal of Behavioural Nutrition and exercise.

Inadequate clothes would mean lack of a coat or a pair of gloves in the winter, uncomfortable footwear or ill-fitting clothes that can restrict the free movements of a child. According to the research, choosing the right clothes are a major cause of conflict between parents and the child-care providers.

The child-care providers say that sometimes the parents due to the morning rush may forget something that is important for the kid. Children tend to grow fast. However, a limited income may restrict some from buying new clothes in every short time period. It is important for every parent to have an appropriate and adequate knowledge about the importance and benefits of active play for a child's development.
