Jillan, an intelligent fox stayed next to an open paddy field where the thick and dark forest edged. No one in the fox family could ever master the art of catching roosters as him.

One day Jillan went to a nearby village named chicken port to practice the art of catching roosters. Chicken port was a place where one could see large number of mouth-watering roosters.

"It is worth staying here for a week. At least thirty delicious dinners I can have", this thought flashed in his mind.

Jillan started his harvest from the next day. The people in chicken port were in a dilemma. No dogs, no night vigils and not even the traps could stop Jillan's hunt. Because he was exceptionally intelligent.

How to catch the thief fox? People started discussing in groups.

It was then 'Pulikeshan', the grandpa in the village came forward and told, "Do not worry about the naughty fox. Don't you remember how I killed the man-eater-tiger long back? It is much easier for me to kill this small fox".

Curious crowd asked him about his plans. Grandpa explained "I will lay down near the chicken nest with a stick and when the fox comes to catch chicken, I will beat him to death". The excited crowd accepted his plan with big applause.

He took over the mission of putting an end the serial-rooster-killing of Jillan fox and send the worried people to sleep.

At sun set he went near the chicken nest with a big stick and lied down there waiting for the fox.

After a while Jillan came that way and his hungry stomach was tempted by the sight of sleeping chickens at the nest. But the intelligent Jillan grew suspicious seeing a dead man near the nest.

Jillan thought of just making sure whether he is dead or not.

"I have seen both dead and living several times. But this is the first time I see a dead body lying with the hep of a stick". Jillan told loudly.

Hearing this 'Pulikeshan' couldn't hold laugh. And seeing him laughing Jillan understood the treachery and ran off the place.
