5 People Die Of Dengue & Leptospirosis In Mumbai; Know The Symptoms & Treatment Measures
Mumbai has recorded 5 deaths due to leptospirosis and dengue in two weeks. Know the symptoms and treatment measures for leptospirosis here.
The recent flood at Mumbai has not just led to damage of properties but people are still suffering its brunt. The after effects of the flood are still dangerous. A number of water-borne as well as vector borne diseases seems to be on the rise.
In just a fortnight, the first two weeks of September, according to the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, they have recorded 5 deaths due to leptospirosis and dengue from Mumbai city.
Of the five deaths, two people died of leptospirosis and three deaths were caused due to dengue. As per the BMC, a total of 34 cases of leptospirosis have been confirmed in the last two weeks.
So when you are faced with such a natural calamity there are certain things that you need to keep in mind in order to prevent the diseases and infections.

Much has been talked about dengue, so today in this article we will be mentioning about the symptoms and the treatment measures available for leptospirosis.
Symptoms Of Leptospirosis:
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection caused by Leptospira, a form of bacteria. A person gets infected when he or she comes in contact with water or soil contaminated by the urine of an infected animal, especially rats.

Symptoms of leptospirosis are generally visible in a week's time. The symptoms includes:
- Fever with chills
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Cough
- Muscle pain
- Headaches
- Irritation in the eyes
- Low appetite

Treatment For Leptospirosis:
A simple blood test is conducted to diagnose the infection. Leptospirosis is basically treated with antibiotics, such as penicillin, that is given early in the course of the disease.
However, in case of serious symptoms, intravenous antibiotics may be required. Meanwhile, if the symptoms persists for long then it is better to consult a doctor in order to prevent any complications.
