Why This Kolkata’s Magician’s Swayamvar Ad For ‘Handsome’ Grooms Has Everyone Spellbound
In today's world, finding a soulmate can feel like a mix of patience, effort, and sometimes, a little bit of luck. With so many ways to connect through social media, dating apps, or even through mutual friends the search for a perfect match can feel endless. Yet, despite the endless options, there's still something timeless about the idea of meeting someone who truly resonates with you. And while everyone may have their own ways of seeking love, Kolkata's popular magician PC Sorcar has taken an unconventional approach to finding soulmates for his three accomplished daughters, each well-known in their respective fields. Read on to discover more.
The Magician's Swayamvar Ad For His Daughters
Renowned Kolkata magician PC Sorcar recently created a buzz with an unusual matrimonial ad in the "Patra-Patri Chai" section of a Sunday newspaper, aiming to find suitable grooms for his daughters, Maneka, Mumtaz, and Moubani. The ad sparked curiosity for its specific yet refreshingly candid criteria: the family is seeking "handsome, tall, well-established" men between 38-45 years old, with no restrictions on caste or creed.
While Maneka has followed in her father's footsteps as a magician, her sisters Mumtaz and Moubani have made their names as popular actresses in Bengali cinema. Sorcar's unexpected, old-school approach to matchmaking has the public intrigued, wondering if this unique family tradition will lead to a modern-day "Swayamvar" for his daughters.
The Youngest Daughter's Perspective of Marriage
In an interview, Moubani, the youngest of PC Sorcar's daughters, shared her views on her family's unique approach to finding her a match. She expressed her belief in the idea of "soulmates" and explained that, whether through love or arranged marriages, relationships are about uniting two hearts.
Reflecting on the Swayamvar tradition, where women had the freedom to choose their partners, she described it as "a beautiful process of selecting a life partner." While acknowledging that external beauty may have its place in the media industry, Moubani emphasised that honesty and a kind heart are what truly count.
All About Finding The Right Soulmate
Moubani Sorcar further shared that she's been single for a long time and doesn't want to waste her or anyone else's time in finding the right match. Reflecting on her sister Maneka's failed marriage in 2012, Moubani emphasised that while marriage is a major commitment, sometimes "getting out of a toxic marriage is better than staying in an unhappy one." She added that "divorce should not be looked down upon, as it's important to find your soulmate," and believes society should encourage people to move forward in life instead of holding them back.
PC Sorcar's decision to place a matrimonial ad for his daughters stems from his unwavering belief that there is a perfect partner for everyone, no matter how much the world changes. Despite the fast-paced, modern approach to relationships and dating today, Sorcar's traditional yet heartfelt gesture reflects his faith in destiny and the idea that true compatibility is still possible.
His unconventional approach showcases his hope that, amid evolving social norms, individuals can still find a partner who resonates with them deeply.
