Who Is Hrehaan Roshan? Hrithik Roshan's Grandson Makes His Musical Debut
Hrehaan Roshan spent his childhood watching his father command a film set. On 28 August, the 20-year-old picked up a guitar instead of a script, and released his first song.
The track, titled This Heavenly Place, marks Hrehaan's debut as an independent artist -not as an actor, which would have been the expected route for a Roshan family scion. He wrote it, sang it and played guitar on it, releasing the single alongside a stripped-back, black-and-white music video that keeps the frame on him and his instrument.
Who Is Hrehaan Roshan?
Hrehaan is the elder son of Hrithik Roshan c and interior designer Sussanne Khan, born on 28 March 2006. He studied at the Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai before moving to Boston, where he is currently a student at the Berklee College of Music - one of the world's best-known institutions for contemporary music education. Family and friends call him Ray. His younger brother, Hridhaan, is the couple's second son.
As Rakesh Roshan's grandson, Hrehaan grows up in a family better known for cinema than music charts - his grandfather is a veteran filmmaker and producer, and his father is among Hindi cinema's biggest stars. His musical debut, then, is a break from the family's usual script.
A Family Built On Music, Long Before The Movies
The irony is that music runs deeper in the Roshan bloodline than acting does. Hrehaan's great-grandfather, Roshan Lal Nagrath, was a celebrated Bollywood composer through the 1950s and 60s. His granduncle, Rajesh Roshan, built a decades-long career scoring hit films - including Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Hrithik's own debut as a leading man.
With This Heavenly Place, Hrehaan becomes the first person in three generations of Roshans to step forward as a singer-songwriter and performing musician in his own right, rather than as a composer working behind the scenes or an actor lip-syncing to someone else's tune.
The Family's Reaction Said As Much As The Song
Hrithik was among the first to celebrate publicly. He shared a clip from the video and wrote, "You were born with an innate wisdom Ray: I trust it so much. It makes me fearless."
Sussanne Khan called herself "overwhelmed" and told her son she loved him "beyond anytime." Hrithik's partner, actor-singer Saba Azad, reposted the track, writing that she was "so proud" of him. Rakesh Roshan added his own message in the comments: "Ray so proud of you, keep soaring." Cousin Pashmina Roshan, who made her own acting debut last year, also sent her congratulations.
What Comes Next For The Young Musician
This Heavenly Place is in English, and its quiet, acoustic arrangement suggests Hrehaan is leaning towards singer-songwriter territory rather than mainstream Bollywood playback. Whether this single is a one-off or the start of a longer career remains to be seen - he is, after all, still a student. But for a family whose musical inheritance had, for two generations, been expressed through composing for other people's films, Hrehaan picking up a guitar and stepping in front of the camera himself feels like the bloodline coming full circle.
