Thanksgiving 2023: This is the time of the year when people are gearing up to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Every year on the fourth Thursday of November, people in the United States pay gratitude to God for giving them each meal and this is known as Thanksgiving. Let us know more about this day.

This year in 2023, it will be celebrated on 23 November and interestingly this day is also known as 'Black Friday', which will be observed on 24 November.
Thanksgiving 2023: History And Significance
Since 1863, the occasion of Thanksgiving has been an annual celebration and it was celebrated by people to thank God for bountiful harvests. Some also claim that the first Thanksgiving was held in the city of El Paso, Texas, in 1598. Also, in 1621, one of the first celebrations of Thanksgiving took place and it was an autumn harvest stated by Plymouth colonists, and Wampanoag and Pumpkin pie and turkey were shared during the celebrations.
Thanksgiving is a time for individuals and communities to reflect on their blessings and express gratitude for the good things in their lives. Also, teaches us to be grateful and thankful to everyone and everything that God has given us. Also, the day tells us to recognize the sacrifices and blessings of the past year. Further, it serves as a time for reflection, connection, and the celebration of shared values.
Thanksgiving 2023: Celebrations
Thanksgiving is observed as a holiday in schools, colleges, and governmental organizations in the United States. This day serves as a reminder to appreciate the positive aspects and people around us. Some individuals and communities use Thanksgiving as a time to give back to those less fortunate. Volunteering and charitable activities are common during the holiday season.
Traditional foods occupy a large part of this celebration and it includes roasted turkey, sweet potatoes, cornbread, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and other mouth-watering dishes. Also, breaking the turkey's wishbone ( (Y-shaped bone) carries a superstition and is a major part of the celebrations.
The wishbone of a turkey is found attached to the breast meat in the turkey's chest and once it becomes dry and brittle, two people take one end of the bone, make a wish, and pull. Whoever gets the large part of the bone end gets their wish fulfilled.
It is a way to acknowledge the importance of the earth's bounty and the fruits of labor. Overall, the significance of Thanksgiving lies in its emphasis on gratitude, family, community, and the acknowledgment of the blessings and abundance in our lives.
