What Is Silver Divorce? If you are a woman there is no way you could have escaped aunties around you saying 'aajkal ke bachhe adjust or compromise karna nehi jante' or 'The generation today doesn't know how to adjust or compromise in marriage'. This is a standard statement in an Indian society where marriage is an institution that is considered sacred, and divorce is a hush-hush word even today.
So, people living on their own terms, keeping their own needs on priority, who do want to get stuck in a toxic relationship, and who have time in their 50s simply for much sought-after peace and freedom can raise eyebrows. This is what trending in India and it is actually on the rise, and everyone is calling it 'Silver Divorce'.

The Sliver divorce rate is rising in many nations including Australia, Britain, the US, and, more recently, India. The UN report 'The Progress of the World's Women 2019-2020' says the divorce rate in India has doubled in the last two decades. Let us know what the silver divorce is all about.
What Is Silver Divorce? Why Is Silver Talak The New Trend In India?
Silver divorce or talaq means couples who are above 50 and are choosing to part ways after years of staying in marriage. Thankfully, social norms are changing, and women and men are becoming increasingly independent, and living life on their own terms. This quirky term is given because of the hair color many elderly people have in this age, which is grey and the color is associated with silver. Hence, this divorce is called Silver Divorce.
This means simply living a separate life than living together and according to National Center for Health Statistics data, the divorce rate among those aged 50 and over doubled between 1990 and 2015. However, this trend is associated with numerous factors such as changes in societal values, and expectations, improved financial stability, independence, empty nest syndrome, etc.
