Rare Pink Diamond Sold
Diamonds is a woman's best friend. Women love jewelry and every woman's selection for jewelry is different. At an auction recently, a rare pink diamond was sold for a huge price of 29 million pounds. It has broken the world record for being the highest sale of diamonds.
The rare pink diamond was sold by Harry Winston who is a celebrity jeweller and the lucky owner of the pink diamond is a British diamond dealer, Laurence Graff.
The price of this pink diamond tops that of the blue 35.56-carat Wittelsbach-Graff diamond which was auctioned for 15.3 million pounds in the year 2008.
The 24.78-carat pink diamond gem, classified by the Gemological Institute of America as "fancy intense pink", was sold by Sotheby's in Geneva. The chairman of Sotheby's jewellery department, David Bennett stated that it is like a pink champagne as he brought down the hammer.
The stone, purchased from American jeweller Harry Winston 60 years ago by the anonymous owner who consigned it for auction in the Swiss city, had a pre-sale estimate of 27-38 million pounds. It has been assessed as type Iia, meaning it is in the top two per cent of the world's diamonds.
