Toys For Kidults And ToyTrends: Inside The Spielwarenmesse 2027 Preview

Nuremberg came to New Delhi on 30 September. At the Shangri-La Hotel, Spielwarenmesse, the world's leading international trade fair for toys, hobbies and leisure products, gave Indian exhibitors an exclusive first look at its 2027 edition.

The preview brought together key players from India's toy and games industry. They heard how the fair's next outing, taking place in Nuremberg, Germany, from 2 to 6 February 2027, could open doors to global visibility and international partnerships.

A Launchpad For Brands Looking Abroad

The programme combined networking sessions, interactive presentations and success stories from past exhibitors. It also had a practical bent. Atish Laddha, Partner at Rödl India, presented "Toy Story: The Export Edition", which covered export promotion schemes, duty benefits, subsidies and grants, and Free Trade Agreement benefits.

For Tanu Ailawadi, Managing Director at Spielwarenmesse India, the timing matters. "The event comes at a significant time for India's toy industry, aligning with the Government's continued emphasis on promoting domestic toy manufacturing, strengthening the sector's global presence and creating new opportunities for Indian toy manufacturers," she said.

She added that the preview was meant to prepare exhibitors for Germany. "This preview event is our way of recognising the region's export potential and helping exhibitors prepare to make the most of their presence in Nuremberg."

Two new attractions headlined the preview.

The first is ToyTrends, which will give an early indication of the trends shaping the market. These are based on insights from a twelve-member Trend Committee representing ten countries, and are meant to help visitors make informed decisions about their product ranges.

The second is a special display area, Toys for Kidults, developed with Ultra Comix and SPIEL Essen. It will show practical product examples for adult toy enthusiasts across three themes: collectibles, tabletop games, and creative fantasy.

Both build on the 75th edition in January 2026, when 2,313 exhibitors from 68 countries took part. The fair's ToyTrends and Toys for Kidults features were among the highlights of that show too.

Face-To-Face, Still

The fair's leadership says the in-person format remains the draw. "Spielwarenmesse brings together supply and demand like no other industry event and creates the best conditions for sustainable business," explained Christian Ulrich, Member of the Executive Board at Spielwarenmesse Group (Spokesperson).

"It is the place where the international industry comes together to shape the future of play," he added. "These face-to-face exchanges give rise to new perspectives and valuable insights that help all groups of participants make successful decisions for tomorrow."

The 76th edition is expected to host over 2,000 exhibitors from more than 68 countries, and to draw tens of thousands of trade visitors. Further information is available at spielwarenmesse.de.

Bottomline

For Indian toy manufacturers, the message from Delhi was fairly direct. The export schemes are in place, the trends are being mapped, and the shop window opens in Nuremberg on 2 February. What remains is for brands to decide whether they are ready to step into it.
