Shaheed Diwas 2023: Bhagat Singh: The Martyred Hero Of Millions And His Message To The World
Bhagat Singh was the star in the galaxy of freedom fighters who is called, for the same reason, as Martyr Bhagat Singh. He was born in a patriotic lineage, on 27 September., 1907 in Punjab, and his father and grandfather were both freedom fighters.

He ate, and breathed patriotism up to his last. He waved a smiling good bye to earth and offered himself at the feet of Bharat Mata in the early hours of 23 March 1931. He was hanged to death by the British.
His Younger Years
Bhagat Singh had an unstoppable ambition to bring the British empire down and even thought of growing guns in the field, when he was young. Impacted heavily by the Ghadar Movement, and deeply impressed by Kartar Singh Sarabha, who was hanged at age 19, he flung himself into the freedom movement. He was so distressed about the Jallianwala Bagh bloodshed on 13 April, 1919 that he reached Amrtisar instantly and brought back home the soil stained by Sarabha's blood.
Avenging Rai's Death
He happened to meet his rest of destined team mates Sukhdev, Rajguru, and Chandrashekhar azad and formed HSRA army. Lala Lajpat Rai, while leading a procession against the British, died due to lathi charge injuries. Bhagat Singh, seething in rage about this occurrence, decided to kill the officer who ordered lathi charge on Rai. Instead of killing General Scott, he killed ASP Saunders but somehow escaped to Agra and established a bomb factory there.
Althought the British took serious steps to curtail the rebellion by passing tough laws, Bhagat Singh's roar had already made a permanent impression in the hearts of Indians by then. After hurling the bomb, Bhagat Singh stood right there willing to be arrested. He did not ask for any lawyer to argue his case for him.
Bhagat Singh Was Hanged
Despite pleas by prominent indian figures, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were sentenced to death and hanged on 23 March. 1931. Their bodies were cremated in Ferozepur. All households in this area did not drink or eat anything that day.
Bhagat Singh's spirit shows clearly through his statements. Here are a few of them.
1. They may destroy my body but they can't kill my patriotic ideas. They may kill me but my spirit cannot be killed.
2. You do not need to control your mind but you must develop it in a harmonious manner. It is not to achieve salvation but to make the best use of life. The aim of life is not to realise ultimate truth, beauty and achieve contemplation, but to actually go through the realities of life. Society cannot achieve progress only by ennobling of a few, but in upholding democracy, Universal brotherhood or fraternity can't be achieved by having equal opportunities, but by having equal opportunities in the social political and personal life.
3. 'Revolution' does not involve sanguinary strife nor is an individual vendetta. It is not a extremist cult which rules by bomb and pistol. The present situation of injustice prevailing in the society has to change,
4. Revolution is a birthright of every human being. Freedom is a birthright of all. Labor sustains society. it is the sovereignty of the final destiny of the workers.
