Why Republic Day Is Celebrated

Republic Day is observed to commemorate 26 January 1950, the day the Constitution of India came into force and the nation formally became a sovereign democratic republic. This marked the completion of India's transition from colonial rule to self-governance under its own laws. The date also holds historical importance as it was first observed in 1930 as Purna Swaraj, symbolising the demand for complete independence. Together, these milestones make Republic Day a moment to reflect on constitutional values, democratic rights and the responsibilities shared by citizens.
