New Travel Trend 'Raw Dogging' On The Stage! Does This Really Help Boost Mental Endurance?
Journeys can be made more enjoyable with various forms of entertainment, but a new trend called "raw-dogging" is gaining popularity on social media. This peculiar practice involves travellers abstaining from all forms of entertainment and distractions during their trips.
The term "raw-dogging" has been redefined from its original crude meaning in Urban Dictionary to signify completing a journey without any fun or, in extreme cases, sustenance.

Content creators are now promoting themselves as experts in this test of mental endurance. Instagram user @trashcanpaul shared his experience of raw-dogging through a seven-hour flight without headphones, movies, water, or anything else. He proudly claimed that his mind's power knows no bounds. However, he is not the only one boasting such feats; others have shared their personal bests, including a 12.5-hour flight and a trip from Los Angeles to Tokyo.
Mixed Reactions From Skeptics
Not everyone is impressed or convinced by this trend. Some critics have joked that these individuals have merely discovered sleeping through flights, while others have warned against attempting it due to its hardcore nature. Despite the mixed reactions, raw-dogging continues to gain attention as travellers challenge themselves to endure long journeys without any form of entertainment or comfort.
However, experts do believe that practicing this trend can have a positive impact because one will be spending an extended time away from technology. While numerous comments on Tiktok have highlighted the idea of domain detox, let us know what it is.
What Is Dopamine Detox?
A dopamine detox is a form of digital detox where individuals abstain from addictive technologies like social media. The aim is to break repetitive patterns of excitement and stimulation caused by technology and recalibrate the brain's pathways for a healthier relationship with phones and social media. Dopamine is a naturally occurring chemical in the brain responsible for feelings of pleasure, satisfaction, motivation, concentration, and mood.
Can Dopamine Detox Work?
Dr. Anna Lembke, a psychiatry professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, in an interview has explained that dopamine release can occur when consuming digital media. However, she clarifies that the term 'detox' suggests something harmful that needs removal, which is not the case with dopamine. Instead, embarking on a dopamine detox reduces one's reliance on specific stimuli for instant happiness.
Lembke highlights that trends like dopamine detox or raw dogging flights can help change our relationship with external stimuli. She says that constantly reacting to external stimuli prevents our brains from forming continuous thoughts or having spontaneous thoughts. So, allowing yourself to sit and do nothing might actually be beneficial after all.
