Top Thrillers Written By Indian Authors
What exactly is a thriller? According to dictionary, it is any novel or movie with an exciting plot, typically involving crime or espionage. Now, this could be a work of pure fiction or it could be based on some historical fact. Some novels and movies are completely based on facts revolving around a certain incident or the life of a person.
Whenever we desire to pick up a bestselling thriller, we turn towards the writings from the west. There have been numerous such novels, both old and new, that have made it to the bestselling list. Be it young or old, readers have been picking up these thrillers with great excitement and relish each page of the book.
But now the scene is changing. India is seeing the emergence of a new generation of writers who are coming up with thrillers.
Many writings from Indian writers have made it to the bestselling lists and have also been translated into various languages. Here, we take a glance at such thrillers.

Families at home by Reeti Gadekar: What first seems to be a case of suicide, turns out to be a murder. A politically connected upper class family, endless flow of money and a fight with his own conscience. How does the Additional Commissioner of Police solve this case? Set in Delhi, this is the debut novel of the author.
Sniper by Shashi Warrier: Eswaran, a lieutenant colonel who is also an ace sniper, hunts for a sniper in the jungles of Nagaland. Meanwhile, his daughter is kidnapped, raped and murdered by some ‘grey man’. Will Eswaran be able to hunt down his daughter’s murderer? Will he be able to hunt down the sniper? Are the sniper and the ‘grey man’ working together? These are just some of the many questions in this thriller by Warrier.

Lashkar series by Mukul Deva: The conflict between India and Pakistan has always been of interest to everyone. Movies have been made based on the terror attacks and terrorists. The Lashkar series also runs on the same line. It takes the readers from Delhi to the rugged mountains of the LOC. It talks about a boy being picked up from Lucknow and trained as a jihadi by a terror outfit. There are a series of bomb blasts and the demand of the public for justice.
A Nice Quiet Holiday by Aditya Sudarshan: A nice quiet stay in a Himalayan town soon turns into a chase for a murderer. There is a maverick criminal court lawyer and his clerk; a controversial report on AIDS turns a town hostile; a close friend of the report’s author is murdered. As a debut novel, Sudarshan has packed the book with thrill and excitement in each page.

Page 3 Murders by Kalpana Swaminathan: Page 3 people are always much talked about. Lalli, the protagonist, lands up at a seaside villa for a relaxing weekend and finds her fellow guests to be a bunch of Page 3 people. All have secrets to reveal but the worst comes in the form of a murder. It becomes Lalli’s responsibility to hunt down the murderer.
Byomkesh Bakshi by Saradindu Bandhopadyaya: This is a classic. Written in Bangla, this is a pure work of fiction involving the detective Byomkesh Bakshi. The stories appeared between 1932 and 1970 and the detective was referred to as our very own Indian Sherlock Holmes.

Krishna Key by Ashwin Sanghi: Lord Krishna took birth on earth to protect humanity against evils. A little boy in modern times grows up with the belief that he is the reincarnation of Krishna and the final avatar. The only problem is that he is a serial killer. Like the many other novels by Sanghvi, this one too is a nail biting thriller.
Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathi: 'The Immortals of Meluha', 'The Secret of the Naga' and 'The Oath of the Vayupurtas' comprise the Shiva Trilogy. Mythology, history and adventure rule the three novels. These books made record breaking sales going on to become the fastest selling book series in the history of Indian publishing.

The Incredible Banker by Ravi Subramanian: A commonplace corporate setting with twists and turns and a scandal brewing. There is no literal action but the novel has everything to make it a thrilling experience – adultery, lies, avarice and fraudulence.
Dongri to Dubai by Hussain Zaidi: This is probably the first book that has tried to chronicle the rise of the Mumbai mafia. And most importantly, it traces the life of one of India’s most wanted criminals – Dawood Ibrahim. This is a well-researched book and keeps the reader glued to it.
