Horror Movies Based On True Stories

There are numerous horror film lovers who sit late in the night in front of their system or TV to watch some scary flicks. While a lot of stories are fictitious and do not hold any resemblance to real lives, people tend to take horror movies lightly.

However, there are some horror movies which are based on real life stories. These are basically true stories and the movies are just retelling the happenings of the victim and paranormal activities.

If you remember 'The Conjuring', you can easily find out that the horror movie is based on a true story. The story of 1970s when two paranormal investigators -- Ed Warren and his wife, Lorraine, tried to help Perron family come out of haunting and paranormal activities in their farmhouse.

Similarly, 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' is another horror movie which is based on a true story. The story is based on the 1976 case of the German girl Anneliese Michel, who died of dehydration and starvation after months of intensive exorcism activity by two Catholic priests. Anneliese had been undergoing psychiatric treatment for many years, and today we believe she suffered from both schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder.

A thrilling horror film about German girl Anneliese Michel who died as a result of a failed exorcism.

The Amityville Horror

The 1979 film is about Lutz family who faced strange paranormal activities when they moved into a New York home where a family was brutally murdered.

The Exorcist

It is one of the most popular horror movies based on a real life event. The 1973 cult classic is about the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl.

The Girl Next Door

It is one of the horrifying and disturbing movies of all time. It showed the horrific torture and abuse of a 16-year-old Sylvia Marie Likens in Indiana who was being cared for by her aunt. She was raped and murdered brutally.
