While it isn't very popular like the other books on the list here, you will find horror purists who swear thatit's one of the best horror books ever written.

The Dark Tower I
The Gunslinger by Stephen King: The whole Dark Tower series deserves to be on the list but then it would be unfair to the other authors. Roland of Gilead is The Gunslinger. Join him as he finds his way into a world quite similar as ours, where the powers of good and evil battle each other. Begin with this and you will seek out the rest of the series. Easily one of the best horror novels of all time.

American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
An intense look into the life of a psychopath, Bret Easton Ellis's American Psycho is a disturbing study on the American dream [well now the entire world too] and its effects. It is smart, bleak, sophisticated and quite horrific. Arguably it deserves to be on the list of the best horror books ever.
