By Cara

Old woman
World's oldest woman, Kama Chinen from Okinawa in southern Japan died at the age of 114 years. Had she been alive for another nine days, she would have celebrated her 115th birthday.

Being the oldest woman, Chinen topped the list of global 'supercentenarians.'

The list consisted of 74 women and three men over the age of 110 from around the world. It is compiled by the Gerentology Research Group.

Chinen was named to be the world's oldest woman after the death of Gertrude Baines who died at an age of 115 in Los Angeles.

After Chinen, Eugenie Blanchard from France is the oldest person alive. She was born on February 16, 1896.
