Rafael Meets The World With A New Face

'Where there is a will there is a way.' Rafael, 34 years old, suffered from congenital disease, neurofibromatosis which had left him with multiple benign tumors. Doctors had declared it to be incurable but this did not disheartened Rafael and he took the decision of going for a face transplant.

After a prolong treatment and 30 hours long surgery in January, Rafael met the World with this new face after 3 months. The surgery has been done by 15 surgeons and now he has new lips, jaws, cheekbones and nose. Doctors have revealed that this was the most complex face transplantation operation till date. Rafael, is the 2nd in Spain and 9th in the World to have a partial face transplant.

The lower part of his face has undergone the face transplant. After the surgery, Rafael confesses, he feels younger and with this he has kindled his hopes for life. His face is still inflated, he can feel the pain on his lips and jaws but he doesn't mind.

According to him, this pain brings back his hope. The scars will go, the pain will heal and it will leave behind for him a beautiful and young face.

An optimist at heart, Rafael is all set to take up the challenges of the World. All he wishes to do now is to hit the stadium and watch a football match of Real Betis, a local football team.
