Who Said Blondes Are Not Smart?

The light-haired women who are well known by the name 'blondes', have the reputation for being long on the appeal and short in the intelligence levels. But the new studies reveal that the blondes earn seven percent more on average, compared to the women with other hair colours.

The study also showed that blondes marry wealthier men who earn around six percent more compared to the husbands of their counterparts. The researchers surveyed 13,000 women as a part of the study.

The studies do not explain the reasons for blondes, earning more and having wealthier husbands.

"Blonde women are often depicted as being more attractive than other women, but also less intelligent. But it seems the association between blondes and intelligence dominates any perception that they have low intelligence.

This could explain why the 'blondeness effect' is evident in the marriage market," says Dr David Johnston, the studies' lead author.

The study has been published in the journal Economics Letters.
