The research team noted that Monday happens to be the day when there is a reported rise in the bizarre or careless accidents such as fire caused by the hair straighteners, home flooding because someone forgot to turn off the taps or simply spilling hot coffee over the laptop screen. The rate of such freak accidents were recorded the highest on a Monday.
The Halifax Home Insurance survey found that a third of most accidents happened on Monday morning. While psychologist Glenn Wilson evaluating the cause says: "People have a good time over the weekend to escape the pressure of the working week. The corollary is that Mondays are marked by low performance and inattentiveness as the body and brain struggle to recover."
Martyn Foulds, Halifax senior claims manager, said: "Whilst we want everyone to enjoy their weekends. We also understand the importance of a safe home, and are urging people to take extra care on Mondays when they might not be operating at 100 percent."
