Dos And Don'ts O Laying Off People!

Don'ts
Do not cut off the staff than necessary.
Do not lay off a group of people together.
Do not give the pink slip on Fridays or before any holidays.
Do not keep the staff in dark about the company's procedures.
Do not let the laid off employee to send any emotive emails to clients or the company.
Dos
Do let the IT staff disable the staff member's email or change computer login details while the redundancy meeting takes place.
Do prevent the leak of confidential documents or intellectual property by the laid off employee.
Do pay the redundancy entitlements to the laid off employee.
Do offer a "career transition program" to the redundant employee, if the budget permitted. Do help the redundant employees to get home, if need arises. If the redundant employee has a company car, don't forget to organise an alternative means for him/her to get home.
Employees being laid off should be advised in one-on-one meetings in a private place.
Be compassionate and don't let the laid off employee feel stranded.
