Noida Police Under Fire For Defaming Aarushi

The Minister said she has directed the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights to take action against the police which has issued showcause notice to the IG police Meerut Zone Gurdarshan Singh for making statement to the media casting aspersions over Aarushi's character. She said once the reply to the notice was received, the ministry would take action against the police officials for making defamatory statement under section 499 and 509 of IPC and the Press Council of India act.
Ms Chowdhury said statement of police about Aarushi being as "characterless as her father" was "highly defamatory and derogatory" and she would also talk to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati regarding the character assassination of the deceased by the police official without any concrete evidence. She hoped that being a woman, the Chief Minister would neither tolerate nor accept such behaviour on the part of the police.
She said the Ministry has strong reservation on the portrayal of Aarushi's character by the policemen who needed to be sensitive.
It was highly defamatory and derogatory to girl child and woman, she said and added that it violated all norms of decency and circumspection.
Pointing out that nothing has been established so far by the investigations, Ms Chowdhury said the statement of police was very "despicable and hurtful to the members of the family and the society as a whole
