The most recent full-scale event, the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention was held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from January 8 to 10, 2025. Following this biennial format, the next large convention is expected in 2027.

The award is usually presented by the President of India during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention. In years without a convention, no award ceremony is typically held.
