Brooklyn's Elizabeth Sweetheart, affectionately known as the "Green Lady," has been living her life in vibrant shades of green for over 20 years. At 83, she's a local legend, brightening her Carroll Gardens neighbourhood with her head-to-toe green outfits, from her lime-tinted hair to her hand-painted shoes. Nearly everything she owns reflects her love for the colour, earning her a unique place in the hearts of those who spot her running errands or simply enjoying her day. Her love for green isn't just a quirk-it's a joyful expression that brings smiles to everyone around her.

About Elizabeth Sweetheart

Originally from Nova Scotia, Elizabeth Sweetheart found her creative calling as an artist and fabric designer. She made her way to New York City in 1963, hitchhiking her way into a career that would span decades. Since then, she's run her own design company and created hand-painted fabric designs for top fashion names like Michael Kors, Liz Claiborne, Calvin Klein, American Eagle, and Ralph Lauren.
Her artistic talent has left its mark on the fashion world, even as she became known for her signature love of the colour green. Elizabeth is married to fellow artist Robert Rosenthal, who fully embraces her green obsession, and their son Sam has taken a different path as a mentalist.

How Elizabeth Became 'The Green Lady'

Elizabeth Sweetheart, the Green Lady of Brooklyn, shared her love for the colour on the British talk show This Morning, saying, "I think it's because I love colour, I have worn a lot of colour through my life and green just seemed to be the happiest, it makes everyone happy and it's easy to live with." In a film by Great Big Story, she added, "I think people really, really like to believe that you like something enough to really carry it through. When you are young you tend to think you look good in black, but as you get older you realize that colour is so fun. I will continue to be green because it is so positive. I think when it is not, then I'll change to my next favourite thing."
