'No Lungi Or Nightie’ In Common Areas: Row Over Bizarre Dress Code In Noida Housing Society
A bizarre move has shocked many residents in an apartment in Greater Noida where the owner's association has banned wearing lungis and nighties in common areas of the housing complex.
This has sparked a row over the dress code that was imposed on the residents on 10 June. The residents of Himsagar Apartment of Greater Noida's Phi 2 were categorically asked by the association to not roam outside their flats "wearing lungi and nightie" and also issued a notice to them.

While some residents welcomed the move, others have criticised the guidelines and found it extremely bizarre because the notice is interfering with their personal choices.
According to a report, the notice reads, "It is expected from all of you that whenever you roam in the society at any time, you should pay special attention to your conduct and dress so that you do not give any chance to someone to object to your behaviour... Therefore, everyone is requested not to roam around wearing lungi and nightie which are home wear."
CK Kalra, RWA President, while reacting to this notice has told ANI 'This is a good decision taken by society and everyone must respect it, there is nothing to oppose. If women wear nighties and roam around, that will be uncomfortable for men and if men wear Lungis that would be uncomfortable for women as well so we need to respect each other.'
While speaking to TOI, he said, that the association has received complaints from some women about a senior citizen wearing 'loose clothes' while doing yoga on the compound which complainants said that it had made them 'uncomfortable'.
The internet is in splits over this notice and while a Twitter user thought that dressing protocols must be followed because walking in nighties and lungis can be a bit inappropriate, another felt that imposing a dress code on others is not inclusive and if this is the case then cartoon printed boxer shorts and night suits in prints and checks masquerading as sportswear must be banned too. "Yet another instance of RWA acting like a khap panchayat," the third user wrote.
