National Sports Day 2023: Date, History, Significance, and Celebrations
National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29 August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, a legendary hockey player. This day aims to promote and encourage sportsmanship and physical fitness among citizens. This day was initiated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with the objective of recognizing the contribution of Indian athletes and promoting sports as an integral part of our culture.
Major Dhyan Chand was one of the greatest field hockey players in history and he won three Olympic gold medals for India in hockey (1928, 1932, and 1936), showcasing his exceptional skills and dedication to the sport.
