The Viral Response - At a 2020 interview, the well-known Chinese actress, aged 45, addressed comments that pressured her to marry and embrace motherhood. She shot back with an upfront reply, "My uterus is not your business" that soon turned viral. Beyond that, this impactful statement has established her as a leading figure for women's rights in the mainland.

Her Single Status - She further explains in an interview that her ex-boyfriends had proposed to her but she had rejected them citing that she didn't want to marry. In her exact words, she says, "Everyone wants to find a perfect match in romantic relationships, but a perfect match only exists in a screw factory," She promotes living life like stars by also quoting "just shining for yourself".

The Misconception - Qin Lan gained popularity for her role in the show 'My Fair Princess 3' in the year 2003 where she played the character Zhihua, the concubine of Prince Yongqi. Many of the viewers assumed that she was similar to her timid and elegant character who is someone willing to please her man in the show. But in reality, Qin Lan proves to be an outspoken, independent lady who stands against conservative beliefs, such as the insistence on marriage and motherhood at an appropriate age, and opts to date men for love instead.

Her Relationships - Talking about dating men, Qin Lan was in a relationship with Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming, the ex-husband of mainland actress Angelababy during the years 2004 to 2006. The interesting part is that she even agreed to pay her management agency a whopping 10-million-yuan (US$1.4 million) penalty to be in a relationship with him. Why? You might wonder. The thing is that actors and entertainers in the the industry often face penalties from their management companies for being in relationships, as they believe that dating can negatively impact their marketability and public image. She later dated Chinese director Lu Chuan after working on the film City of Life and Death, but parted ways in 2014.
