How Celebrity Culture Is Influencing Travel, Luxury and Everyday Lifestyle Choices
Celebrity culture today goes far beyond cinema screens and social media feeds. It increasingly influences how people travel, celebrate, socialise and express themselves. From fashion and wellness to travel and luxury experiences, consumers are increasingly inspired by the lifestyles they see celebrities and creators sharing online. What was once exclusive to celebrities is gradually becoming a source of inspiration for everyday consumers.
This shift is particularly visible in the way people approach travel. Luxury is no longer defined simply by reaching an expensive destination; it is increasingly about how the entire journey feels. We spoke to Aaditya Mishra, Co-Founder & Chief Growth Officer, Luxorides, a chauffeur-driven luxury mobility company in India, who explained how celebrity culture is influencing travel, luxury, and everyday lifestyle choices.
In the age of Instagram Reels, celebrity airport appearances, destination weddings and luxury travel content, aspiration is increasingly shifting from products to experiences. "Consumers are not necessarily trying to replicate a celebrity's entire lifestyle; instead, they selectively adopt elements that fit their own lives. A special arrival, memorable road trip or premium travel experience can become a way of expressing personality and individuality," said Mishra.
From Destination to Experience
One of the clearest shifts can be seen in the way people view travel and mobility. Travel is no longer purely functional; for many consumers, the journey itself has become part of the experience. The vehicle they choose, the way they arrive and the comfort and privacy they experience can all contribute to how they remember and share a trip.
"Whether it is a wedding arrival, scenic road trip, airport transfer or weekend getaway, consumers increasingly want the journey to match the occasion. For some, that means greater comfort and privacy; for others, convenience, personalisation or simply creating a memorable arrival," shared Mishra.
The Influence of Entertainment on Travel Choices
"The relationship between entertainment and travel has become increasingly powerful. Films, television series and digital content often introduce audiences to destinations, hotels, restaurants and lifestyles that may otherwise remain outside their everyday experiences," added Mishra. Expedia Group's 2025 travel trends research found that 66% of travellers said movies and television shows had influenced their travel choices, showing how what people see on screen can shape real-world travel aspirations.
Social media further accelerates this effect. Celebrities, influencers and digital creators regularly showcase travel experiences, luxury road trips, stylish arrivals, wellness escapes and destination celebrations. Expedia Group's 2025 Traveler Value Index found that 61% of travellers use social media to find trip ideas, while 73% said influencer recommendations had influenced a decision to book a trip or travel component.
Which cars do celebrities prefer when travelling across India?
When travelling across India, celebrities and other high-profile travellers often prioritise vehicles offering comfort, privacy, space and a discreet chauffeur-driven experience. The choice depends on the occasion and journey. Premium sedans can suit airport transfers and business travel, while luxury SUVs can be practical for longer road journeys, events and group travel. Privacy, luggage capacity and the overall itinerary can also influence the choice.
Luxury Today Is About Experience
"Modern luxury is increasingly about access and experience rather than ownership alone. Consumers may choose premium products and services for occasions when comfort, convenience, exclusivity or experience matter most," said Mishra.
Mastercard research across more than 16,000 consumers in 24 countries found that nearly nine in ten respondents planned to spend the same amount or more on experiences in 2024 than in 2023. Mastercard also reported that experiences and nightlife accounted for 12% of global tourism sales in the first quarter of 2024.
The Future of Lifestyle Culture
"Celebrity culture will continue to influence lifestyle choices, but the definition of aspiration is evolving. Consumers increasingly value experiences that combine luxury with convenience, wellness, personalisation and sustainability," added Mishra.
"The real shift is that aspiration is becoming democratised. Celebrities may showcase the lifestyle first, but consumers increasingly decide which elements are meaningful enough to bring into their own lives. Luxury is no longer just about what is seen from the outside; it is about how an experience makes people feel," Mishra concluded.
