Dharmendra Prayer Meet Draws Bollywood and Political Icons — Emotional Tributes Flow
An outpouring of love, nostalgia and tribute filled the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi on Thursday, where family, political leaders and Bollywood personalities gathered for a prayer meet in memory of legendary actor Dharmendra. The Bollywood legend left for eternal rest on November 24, 2025, aged 89, leaving his indelible mark in Indian cinema. He has been remembered as "He-Man of Indian cinema."
A Tribute Hosted by Hema Malini and Family
The event was hosted by Dharmendra's wife, actress and BJP MP Hema Malini, along with their daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, and family members including Bharat Takhtani and Vaibhav Vohra. The prayer meeting was scheduled for 11th December 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Venue for this event has been set as Dr Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi.
This gathering followed an earlier ceremony held on November 27 in Mumbai, organised by Dharmendra's sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, which brought together many from the film fraternity for an emotional "Celebration of Life."
Bollywood and Political Figures Pay Their Respects
Besides family members, the Delhi prayer meet saw attendance from prominent figures across cinema and politics. From Bollywood, notable personalities were present to honour the late actor's memory, reflecting the deep bonds he shared within the industry. Additionally, political leaders also offered their tribute.
Floral offerings were also left by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with other key members of the government, including JP Nadda, Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman, Kiren Rijiju, and Ashwini Vaishnaw. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil cinema icon Rajinikanth had earlier shared public condolences, highlighting Dharmendra's broad impact and respect across regions and sectors.
Heartfelt Moments and Remembrance
The prayer meet was marked by emotional speeches, group prayers, and silent moments as all those present reflected on the life of Dharmendra, which was replete with memorable performances, iconic roles, and a warmth that made him a dearly revered personality in the lives of all those in his audience. His family remembered him as a person who was as gracious in life as he was a star.
The emotional mood that prevailed at this event was reminiscent of that in the Mumbai event, where all, from celebrities to fans, were present to celebrate his role in Indian cinema.
Legacy of a Cinema Legend
Dharmendra's body of work, from classics like Sholay and Chupke Chupke to later acclaimed roles, has left an indelible imprint on Bollywood. Revered as one of Hindi cinema's most charismatic and versatile performers, his legacy continues to be honoured through these prayer gatherings and the many stories shared by friends, co-stars and admirers.
Though the industry mourns his passing, these collective moments of tribute remind audiences and peers alike of the joy, passion and humanity he brought to every role, and the lasting affection with which he is remembered.
