Comedian Zakir Khan Announces 3–5 Year Break From Comedy to Focus on Health
Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has surprised fans by announcing that he is planning a significant break from comedy performances, which could last three to five years, potentially until 2028, 2029 or even 2030. The news came during one of his shows in Hyderabad, where he is currently touring with his stand-up special Papa Yaar.
In a video from the show that has been widely shared on social media, Zakir addressed the audience and explained why he felt this break was necessary. While speaking from the stage, he said the hiatus would allow him to take care of his health and attend to personal matters that he had been postponing for some time.
Current Tour Will Be Limited Before Break
As part of this decision, Zakir has confirmed that his ongoing Papa Yaar tour, which includes shows in India and abroad, will be his last set of performances before the break. He also hinted through his Instagram Stories that the remaining shows until June 20, 2026, will be treated as a celebration before he steps away from the stage for several years.
In his message to fans earlier this week, he urged people to attend the remaining shows, saying, "Every show is a celebration till June 20. I won't be able to come to many cities this time, so please make a little extra effort and come to the shows. Thank you for all the love."
Why Zakir Is Taking a Break
Zakir has been very open in the past about the physical toll that years of continuous touring and performances have taken on him. In a statement last year, he revealed he had been feeling unwell for over a year, attributing his health issues to constant travel, multiple shows a day, sleepless nights, early morning flights, and irregular eating habits.
Despite this, he continued performing because of his passion for the stage and his commitment to fans. However, during his recent shows, he acknowledged that he could no longer ignore his health and needed to prioritise long-term well-being.
Looking Back: A Decade of Stand-Up Success
Zakir Khan has been one of India's most popular comedians for almost a decade. He is known for his relatable stories, emotional humour, and his well-known "Sakht Launda" persona. He has performed in sold-out shows in India and abroad, and his comedy specials have made him a familiar name in many households.
