Today, March 1, marks a momentous day in Jamnagar as pop icon Rihanna graces Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's extravagant wedding with her performance. Known for her global tours and rare private appearances, Rihanna's participation at this high-profile Indian wedding has stirred considerable buzz.
Sources close to India Today has that revealed that the Barbadian singer is being compensated with a staggering $8-$9 million (approximately Rs 66 to 74 crore) for her performance at the pre-wedding festivities, titled 'An Evening in Everland'.
Rihanna, who landed in Gujarat's Jamnagar on February 29 with her troupe, was warmly welcomed and photographed as she exited the airport. Attendees can expect an elaborate set from the singer, featuring a medley of her greatest hits, including the beloved track 'Diamonds'. It's noted that a significant portion of her fee is allocated to cover the logistics of transporting stage equipment and outfit changes for her and her background singers.
The songstress's last major performance at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show captivated over 121 million viewers, highlighting her enduring popularity and stage presence. Rihanna is not the first global music star to perform at an Ambani wedding.
In 2018, Beyoncé serenaded guests at Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal's sangeet, reportedly for a fee of around $4 million (Rs 33 crore).
Besides Rihanna, the wedding celebrations will feature performances by Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh and a special act by illusionist David Blaine. The event has attracted a constellation of Bollywood stars, including Shah Rukh Khan and his family, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and many more, making it the most anticipated wedding of the year.
As the festivities kick off, the blend of international talent and Bollywood glamour promises to create unforgettable memories for the guests and set a new benchmark for lavish Indian weddings.
