Abhijit Majumdar, Who Shaped the Sound of Odia Cinema, Passes Away at 54

The Odia music industry is mourning the loss of one of its most loved composers and singers, Abhijit Majumdar, at just 54 on January 25, 2026. He died after a long battle with serious health conditions at AIIMS in Bhubaneswar.

Known for shaping the sound of modern Odia cinema, Majumdar's songs touched generations of listeners. His death has created a huge vacuum within the industry and among the music lovers who have grown up with their ears filled with the songs rendered by this legend.

Majumdar had been receiving treatment in AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, since September 2025, as his condition had worsened significantly. He struggled with various medical issues during these months, which were extremely critical, and it was not easy to manage them all, especially with issues like neurological problems, pneumonia, liver problems, hypertension, and other infections. Despite months of intensive care and medical support, his health worsened in late January, leading to cardiac arrest.

According to the hospital bulletin, it was stated that after the serious infection on the evening of the 23rd, Majumdar's body went into refractory septic shock, but Majumdar couldn't be revived despite the best attempts.

A Musical Legacy That Defined an Era

Majumdar is originally from Cuttack in Odisha. His musical journey dates back to 1991. Over the years, he received recognition for having a distinct musical style, composing songs that turned out to be hits. In a highly successful musical career of more than three decades, Majumdar emerged as a highly influential music director in Odia music, directing more than 700 songs.

He was best known for the fusion of emotions, melody, and regional flavor in most of the popular Odia language films, including 'Love Story,' 'Sister Sridevi,' 'Golmaal Love,' 'Mr Majnu,' 'Sundergarh Ra Salman Khan,' and 'Sriman Surdas.'
