Masala Dosa Music Band
Pierre Jean Duffour, the founder of 'Masala Dosa' band, quotes that it was in 2002 that he got influenced by the Indian food that is cooked with an assortment of spices. Hence, it was then he decided to bring the same spicy effects in his musical composition as well.
The 'Masala Dosa' troop claim to have blended the notes, beats and sounds like spices into their musical band and this band currently caters to the global appetite for good music.
The troop also quoted that they have tried to build a sound that can bridge the culture in France and India, because they compose the music the same way the Indians cook a dish. Pierre Jean Duffour also added that Masala is a mix of spices, Dosa can be similar to a plate, that's why we decided that this would be the most symbolic title. He also added that the band is on an Indian tour to promote their latest album 'Electro World Curry'.
During the last three years 'Masala Dosa' has been performed in over 200 concerts across Europe along with artists of different countries. Prior to a visit to Chandigarh, the maverick Frenchmen performed in Bangalore, New Delhi and Pushkar as well. In addition, the band has also composed music for the film 'Sita Sings the Blues' by American director Nina Paley.
The Bass Guitarist of 'Masala Dosa' band, Brice Duffour said: “Our music is a fusion of different music coming from around the world but basically Indian. He also added that his troop is very much touched by the welcome in India and it's like coming back to the roots of it's music.
Though the three musicians have been working together and experimenting music for the past 15 years, their inspiration for the Indian music sparked off after watching a performance by Pandit Ravi Shankar, the famous sitar player.
Inspired by the instrument played by Pandit Ravi Shankar, they visited Uttar Pradesh in 1998 to learn this instrument.
Though the Indian and French cultures being different in several ways, it is the music that motivates the souls to to bind through the international boundaries.
