Though North Korea is obsessed by food shortage, it has arranged for the import of wheat, flour, butter and cheese from Italy for eatery, quotes the New York Daily News. In addition, the Chosun Sinbo newspaper reported that the cooks were sent to Naples and Rome to get trained after they were found making errors in the kitchen.
The manager of the restaurant in Pyongyang Kim Sang-Soon stated: "The general said that the people should also be allowed access to the world famous dishes". The paunchy Kim's fondness for fancy food is well known, and Italian food is one of his favorite cuisines.
In the year 2004, an Italian chef narrated how he was hired to train North Korean army officers how to make pizza, so they could cook for Kim.
